The Brazilian Buttocks Lift is one of the most popular cosmetic buttocks surgeries around. Here’s what it is and how they do it.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift and is it Right for You?

Brazilian Butt Lift: Give & Take

A Brazilian Butt Lift can be thought of as 2 surgeries. Fat is removed from one part of the body, and then injected into the buttocks area. The goal is to make the buttocks larger and modify the shape.

The first part of the surgery involves using liposuction to remove fat from other parts of the body. Usually it comes from abdominal fat – either from the front of the abdomen or on the sides, more commonly known as ‘love handles’.

The cosmetic benefits are twofold, not only does the butt get the size the patient wants, but they also get the benefit of having their midsection liposuctioned. This combination can provide a reasonably good one-two punch of a smaller waist and larger butt.

How is a Brazilian Butt Lift Performed?

Among cosmetic surgeries, a butt lift is fairy complicated though it doesn’t make the list of the top 10 surgeries you should avoid.[1] General anesthesia (full knockout) is common, but not always required.

Liposuction for the source areas of the body can normally be accessed with just a few small incisions of just a few millimeters. Good surgeons will ensure that these incisions are also located in an inconspicuous location.

Similarly, the incisions for injecting the fat need only be about the same size as those used to remove it from the sources areas – just a few millimeters.

Breast correction and plastic surgery

Is a Butt Lift Right for You?

Like most cosmetic surgeries, it’s largely a matter of opinion. Some women want a bigger butt, and some don’t. But there are some things to take into consideration.

If you’re a very thin individual, you may not have enough fat stores to provide the source fat for the procedure. In addition, a very thin person may find that the proportions that come from having the Brazilian buttocks lift done might not be as flattering as you’d hoped. You may find that additional surgeries, such as breast augmentation, might be needed to maintain a balanced appearance.

Conversely, if you’re a very large individual, the effects of a butt lift may not even be apparent. Your surgeon may require you to lose weight before considering you a candidate.

Health Concerns & Possible Complications

Like any surgery, the procedure doesn’t come without risks. In the case of cosmetic surgeries, the desired results are not always guaranteed.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, minor risks include bruising and stretch marks. They also warn of more serious complications such as necrosis of fat or tissues surrounding the fat, blood clots, infection, and fat embolism (which can be deadly).

You can minimize these risks by ensuring you choose a surgeon who is uniquely qualified to perform the surgery as its new popularity has led to many surgeons offering it who have not been fully trained in the procedure.[2]

How Much Does The Brazilian Buttock Lift Cost?

Costs can vary depending on where you go and who does your procedure, but according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, buttock enhancement costs can range anywhere from around $4100 to $5100 or higher.[3]

Alternatives to Surgery

If you’re apprehensive to surgery but still want an amazing but, consider some glute-building exercises. Aside from obvious ones like squats and leg presses, even walking and running will do wonders for your overall shape and work out the glutes. They’ll also slim down your midsection so your waist to butt proportions move you in the same direction as surgery would.
